Description

Experience the comforting flavors of Christopsomo, a traditional Greek bread adorned with aromatic spices and nuts, perfect for sharing during festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit until frothy for about 10 minutes.
  2. Add honey, olive oil, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually mix in all-purpose flour until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a round loaf. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Sprinkle chopped walnuts, ground cinnamon, and toasted sesame seeds on top.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before slicing.
