Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans and line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until combined.
- In another bowl, beat granulated sugar and eggs until fluffy. Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and orange zest; mix until well combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
- While cakes cool, beat softened butter and cream cheese until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and orange juice; mix until smooth.
- Once cakes are cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top. Add the second layer and frost the top and sides of the cake.
