  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • Gel food coloring (various colors)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add sugar and continue beating until fluffy (about three minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time along with vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Alternately mix in the dry ingredients with milk, starting and finishing with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pans for about ten minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  7. In a mixing bowl, combine confectioners' sugar and heavy cream. Beat until smooth and creamy.
  8. Divide frosting into bowls if using multiple colors and add gel food coloring as desired.
  9. Once cakes are cooled, frost between layers and decorate the top with colorful floral designs.
